This was a very neat looking concept. With its huge silver slab sides and orange window trim it was very striking. The vehicle is about the same size as a regular minivan.

The interior had quite a “wow” factor also with its swiveling egg chairs and round light panel. The light panel can be used as a random, flowing color show or display pics and video.

Fun to look at, but it also irritated me.
Ford can’t stop telling everyone who will listen how they are losing truckloads of cash everyday. Why spend millions to make a concept that is so far from reality? It does cost millions to build things like this too when you add in the engineering and design costs, materials, one-off body panels, prototype tooling to make the panels, handmade interiors, custom made show tires, and hundreds of other things.
In most states it is illegal to drive with your interior light on. I can only imagine how fast you’ll get pulled over for having that light panel flashing to the beat like a 23rd century disco ball.
Those chairs will never be cheap enough to put into a production vehicle. The Airstream Concept will never be more than car show jewelry.
I would much rather see 2008 models or concepts of 2011 redesigns. Stuff like this isn’t going to miraculously turn around an automakers’ profits.
Oddly enough, a real Airstream trailer went through my parking lot at work today. All work in the office came to halt as everyone watched to make sure the person navigated around without hitting any cars.
