Most of the world has been watching rally racing for years but it is just starting to gain a following in the USA. The X-Games did a good job of exposing the American public to rallying by including some racing action last year. When rallying comes up in conversation and people aren’t familiar with it I usually tell them about it and suggest this video. These are the highlights from the 2004 World Rally Championship season. It may be 3 years old but it does a great job of capturing the spirit of the sport. My favorite part is during the “Is that all you got?” breakdown. Petter Solberg jumps his Team Subaru WRX so far that he and his co-driver probably had time to enjoy some in-flight peanuts.

Mid-90’s Jaguar Police Cruiser
Here’s a police car you don’t see everyday. It was parked in the lot next to the station. I like the “Seized from a drug arrest” sticker.

Chicago Parking
Driving in Chicago wasn’t as bad as trying to navigate through Detroit streets. Traffic was heavy but pretty well-behaved. Of course, there is always one knob in every crowd. This guy decided to share my parking space since I got the last spot on the block. Maybe I should find out who this person is and make them split the cost of the parking meter with me. You owe me 12.5 cents!

Thanks for NOT walking an extra block, jerk-wad.

GM brings Opel back to the US (sort of)
This is one of the best ideas GM has had in quite some time. First they brought the Opel Vectra over as the Saturn Aura and now they are bringing the Opel Astra over as the 2008 Saturn Astra. The Opel brand was sold in the US until the early 1970’s when GM decided to streamline its’ brands.

While the Aura has received little affection from the media, it is definitely a step in the right direction. Sharing platforms with the rest of the world should free up engineering resources to improve and develop new GM products as well as improve the Saturn brand. Considering the last few cars Saturn developed on its’ own, anything is an improvement.
Opel is also receiving a car from the US market. The Saturn Sky is being sold in Europe as the Opel GT.
